Τhree Photographic Trails – Nicosia: People and Places, Part 2: 1950-1960 (GR-ENG)

Photographic album dedicated to the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia’s temporary exhibition of the same name. It is the second part of a trilogy which brings together a vast array of historical photographs from the Museum’s ‘To Mati’ Photographic Archive, revealing unique aspects of the capital through the passage of time.

The publication focusses mainly on photographic material from the 1950s until the early 1960s. Let’s follow the album’s photographic trail step by step to recognise

a city that became Europeanised as it began to adopt new models in laying the foundations of its contemporary version. In this particular period the significant political events brought many photographer–reporters to the island looking to capture with their lens the developments and the people of Cyprus in a mesh of unprecedented changes. 

The essay included was written by the Deputy Director of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia Maria Patsalosavvi.
