Kanthos – The Sharp Edges of History (ENG)
A publication dedicated to Telemachos Kanthos (1910-1993), a pioneer of the first generation of Cypriot artists. The book aims to flesh out an image of an artist engaged affectively in the world around him, with a focus on the historical realities of the island during the period in which he was working. More specifically, it juxtaposes and discusses two of the artist’s popular themes: the ‘Women’s Bazaar’ series, which captures the serenity and peaceful cohabitation of a multicultural community, and the ‘Hard Years’ series, a nuanced response to the realities of conflict and war.
